Dr. Kenneth Hughes, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon, has followed the public health initiatives from the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and without reduced virulence of the Covid-19 strains or reduced penetrance, the country is sure to experience a resurgence of Covid-19 cases.  With all of the rioting, protesting, and demonstrating in the last few weeks, the tens of thousands gathering in closed quarters is the perfect breeding ground for the coronavirus.

Alexis C. Madrigal and Robinson Meyer recently published an article expressing concern about the coronavirus not being done with us.  Cases in two dozen states are on the rise and the numbers are likely to increase. Given the incubation time of the virus, the worst is yet to come.  The aggressiveness of any campaign should be tempered with the wisdom.  At this point in time, it simply does not make sense for people to be crowded together, many without masks or personal protective equipment.   Some in this country may be wondering if the public in general has just given up on the precautions in all be damned approach.

Any epidemiologist, immunologist, or virologist knows that we are facing some harrowing times.  Despite political agendas of many supporting mass meetings, everyone knows what could be ahead.

For several weeks at the beginning of the outbreak in the U.S., the need to control the virus took precedence over other concerns. Now, for many people, the pandemic is no longer the most pressing issue. Some believe that the protests and riots are merited in this dangerous environment for viral spread, despite setting the stage for a huge increase of Covid-related deaths.  Some believe that wearing masks and social distancing are no longer merited as the coronavirus threat is not real.

The saddest part of the whole situation is that loved ones can and will get sick from the things that you do and from the actions of those around you.  The lack of control is perhaps what disturbs people the most.  Or perhaps it is the lack of knowing what awaits us all.
